Receiver alignment

Thanks for all the great responses on the alignment issue. I have to read
and re-read them to digest all the information provided.  The receivers are
a R4C which has the 50khz IF, R4B and a TR4.
The 8640B was too steep for me!  I searched Ebay and the only ones for sale
were
Heathkits etc. None of the other ones mentioned.
