Gang:

The first two RealRadio programs are now available for downloading at:

http://wmbc.umbc.edu/rob/realradio/

And soon there will be two more online. They are in the .mp3 format. If
you don't know what this is it is a highly compressed form of audio file
that is of excellent (near-CD) quality. Each program is 29:30 long and the
file size is 6.8 MB which should take about 20 minutes to download. You
can download the excellent WINAMP player for playing MP3 files (free of
charge) from www.winamp.com.

Soon these programs will be available in streaming audio form and you can
listen to them using the Real Audio player.

You may ask: What does this have to do with Collins Radio???

Well there is some Collins content of course. Listen to the program this
weekend and The Timtron will tell us how to "deyellify" the audio in a
75S-3 B/C receiver. Warning: this is not for the purist or the
weak-of-heart as Tim's modifications are usually non-reversible and quite
invasive. However I can attest that they make a big difference as to the
quality of the audio output especially in the wide band AM mode.

The program can be heard on WBCQ The Planet at 0030Z Sunday (7:30 PM EST
Saturday) on 7,415 Kilocycles. Regular guests include K4ZDH, Riley
Hollingsworth of the FCC, great ham radio and cranking tunes and other
features of interest to folks interested in vintage radio communications
equipment.

MrMike W1RC
and The Timtron, WA1HLR
