Collins Collectors set to meet in Cedar Rapids

On Friday, August 11th, the Collins Collectors Association will meet in
Cedar
Rapids, Iowa, home to Rockwell-Collins, the modern day evolvement of the

Collins Radio Company, and the business that Arthur Collins started in
1933.

The events, which will start Friday afternoon, and continue for the next
two days, include a visit to the Collins
Museum and a tour of the Rockwell Collins plant, Collins technical
sessions, and the Cedar Valley Amateur Radio Club Hamfest on Sunday.
You’ll also have an opportunity to chat with the CCA members at Rockwell

Collins that organized and sponsored this event, including Mark Hovda –
N0JWI, Rod Blocksome – K0DAS, Gayle Lawson – K0LFY, Gene Duprey – K1GD ,

and numerous others.

Program Activities Include:

Butch Shartau, K0BS, Restoration Techniques

Jim Maccani, W0HUP, KWM-380 Servicing

Jay Miller, KK5IM, "Pictorial History of Collins Radio"

Bill Wheeler, K0DEW, History of the CCA

"Arthur and His Company" by Ben Stearns, Former PR Director for Collins
Radio

Bob Peters, K1JNN, Collins in Viet Nam MARS Operation

Tours of Com Central, the antenna farm, Rockwell Collins factory and a
Collins Amateur Radio Club station.

 Question and Answer Panel.  This panel will include key engineers who
were directly involved in the amateur product line development and
production.

The featured speaker will be Chuck Carney, W0GDJ.  Chuck was the Amateur

Radio Product Line Manager during the early S-Line period.

All convention activities and dinners, except for the Collins facility
tours, will be held at the History Center in downtown Cedar
Rapids.   The Hamfest on Sunday the 13th will be held in Amana Iowa.
