Origin of 73 (Phillips' Code)

[Nigel Holmes 03 9626 1914 fax 03 9626 1917]

        A Walter P. Phillips published in 1876 a punctuation marks and
        special symbols code to compliment the Morse alphabet of 1844. My
        list of Phillip's code doesn't include any numerical
        abbreviations though. This information was found in a c. 1970
        publication called "Ports O' Call" by the Society of Wireless
        Pioneers founded by William A. Breniman.
