Globe King & Krylon

While restoring my Globe King 500B, it found what appears to be a coat
of clear Krylon on the front panels.  As Krylon does, it has yellowed,
and the panels look slightly discolored in some areas. I have managed to

gently remove some of the thinest areas of the Krylon coating with an
automotive cleaner wax. I'm very worried about trying anything stronger
for fear of degrading the original paint and silk screen, which are
still quite good underneath.  Has anyone had success at removing Krylon
without damaging what's under it ???
