Snake oil

I too find these claims amazing, and I fully support the parting of money
and morons, but I have to confess that as a BA'er and an audiophiler, I make
a reasonable attempt at low inductance speaker connections, especially with
subwoofers. I use 12 AWG low voltage lighting zip cord, and find an audible
difference between that and 22 AWG speaker wire. Really. And I don't have
particularly acute hearing. I also use RG-62 for my single ended
interconnects, because the capacitance of 50 ohm shielded wire will cause a
high frequency roll off that is audible even by some of my old buzzard
friends. I use balanced 600 ohm interconnects for most of my long runs for
my home theater. I also try to maintain good power line regulation by using
a dedicated circuit for my audio stuff, as I do with the circuits in my
shack. Let's face it, most people find our collective hobby quite strange.
I find myself explaining the allure of boatanchors to people (including
hams, and other engineers), mostly receiving vacant stares from them. Let
the poor schmucks have their multi-kilobuck line cords. It obviously makes
them happy. God bless the entrepenours that can find buyers for this stuff.
73,
Scott

Well you have to remember, "Monster Cable" has been on the market for a long
time. And they sell a ton of it. Just think, a new product: Monster cable
with each leg shielded, then the entire cable double shielded and then a
"loose jacket". My God think of the quality sound you could get from
that!!! Yea, and I will throw in the Brooklyn bridge for free!

I laughed so hard I busted my gutwire........

Seriously, have you ever talked to these fanatics? I guess after a while
they get so much $$$ invested in oxygen depleted copper power cords and gold
tinned shielded cables that they have to 'believe'. I worked my way through
college selling high end audio, the most profitable items were accessories.
All the while I had my Scott 6L6 amplifier hooked to a pair of home made
speaker cabinets with zip cord scavenged from old extension cords. Hard to
keep a straight face sometimes.
