However, you will often see "e" used for voltage - short for e.m.f. = Electro-motive
Force.

Some folks will use "V" as a designator for emf, but it is more correctly used as
the abbreviation for "volt" the UNIT of
electro-motive force.

The lower case letters refer to instantaneous and the capital letters refer to DC in
most cases.

etc.
