Focusing diodes and scopes

  Hi all, Please, excuse the off-topic inquiry. Does anyone know
if scopes use or used to use focusing diodes? Maybe in some
high-end scopes from HP or TEK or military stuff? If so does 
anyone have any data they would share, or a suggestion of where I might locate such info?  Thanks to all, Richard
