To All;

A little off-topic but, with your indulgence, I am looking for a good
condition (but need not work) Hallicrafters S-38 receiver as a gift for
a good friend whom I have known for almost 15 years. He is a long-time
ham, a darned good engineer and is fighting the good fight against
cancer. And winning at this point, I might add. He mentioned the other
day that he is looking for a S-38 just for old times sake. It turns out
that an S-38 was the first receiver he ever worked on and fixed (as a
teen ager) so it has an emotional context for him as, I would suspect,
much of what you and I prefer has an emotional context for us.

Anyways I'm on a crusade and I'm searching for a nice looking, complete,
mostly if not completely original S-38. S-38A, B or C would be OK also
but have a real preference for the S-38 (not only the first one he
worked on but also built the year he was born!). As mentioned, it need
not work as he is more than capable of fixing it (in fact, I think he
would get a kick out of it!). Of course, working is AOK also! Manual
would be nice but not essential as I can easily pick one up elsewhere.

All leads, hints, ideas would be more than welcome. I am, of course,
keeping an eye on EBAY but would prefer to deal with someone from the
list(s). Thanks for letting me use the bandwidth.
