Smaller aircraft usually have a top mounted
endfed wire from just above the cockpit to
the top of the vertical stabilizer, sometimes
that is a tie point and it extends on downward
to the windtip area. Large aircraft that I have
seen pictures of, have the front edge section
of the vertical stabilizer as a hf antenna. some
have had a slot antenna mounted on the top or
bottom body of the aircraft, away from any
openings. Some will also have the end fed wire
from the cockpit to the top of the vertical stabilizer.
Never got involved with those as certification in
avionics is required - I think.
