removeing smoke stains

Hi All,
Have been restoring boatanchors for years.  I use Windex to clean 
everything.  It has a little ammonia in it but not enough to damage.
Formula 409 and such are to harsh.  Cover things like transformers and 
things that don't like water.  Spray with Windex and
rinse with warm water.  Works great.
