Who Built the BC-696-A Transmitters?

The crystal was used for calibration of the VFO and
not for any mixing. The "seeing eye tube" would close
when the VFO was tuned to the crystal frequency thus
indicating if the dial calibration was close enough.
The VFO operated "straight through", that is, it
generated the output frequency of the transmitter.
Basically any crystal that has a fundamental within
the range of the transmitter would work in terms of
checking the calibration.

The rear connector and crystal are missing so I will
have to chase those down. I am not familiar with the
rig but am guessing the crystal mixes with the VFO?
What would be the value, please?
