But, unfortunately, most Swan units tend to drift and
many pretty badly.
This is due to the fact that Swan did not use a fixed
VFO range (usually 5.0 MHz to 5.5 MHz) and a crystal
controlled conversion oscillator/mixer for the various
bands. Instead every band on the Swan units (with the
usual exception of 80 / 20 meters) has a different VFO
frequency that is mixed with the SSB generator. Since
the stability of the VFO decreases as the frequency
gets higher, the stability of the transceiver gets
worse and worse the higher the frequency of the band.
By the time 10 meters is reached most Swan units are
pretty darn "drifty".
