NC-183D anomoly?

I've seen a couple of these receivers. They are not exactly a NC-183D. They had some special mods, mostly in the IF as I recall, performed by a third party. I can't remember the company that did the mods, but there was a special manual they supplied with the receiver. I wish I could tell you more, but the last time I saw one was at least 20 years ago.

I would be interested in opinions on a receiver that was recently sold on ebay as an NC-183D.  It was item no. 250132639736, and although it says NC-183D on the front panel, it does not look like any NC-183D I have ever seen.  Any and all opinions would be appreciated.
