Using a T-17/ARC-5 as a 160M VFO?

It should work fine.  You might want to remove one of
the 1625 final amplifier tubes and put no more than 75
to 100 volts on the plate (less, of course, on the
screen) to use it as a buffer stage.

In years past (like MANY years past) I have used a
BC-696 for an 80 meter VFO and a BC-459 as a 40 meter
VFO and as a VFO for 6 meters and 2 meters (times 6
for 6 meter frequency and times 18 for 2 meter
frequency).
