Help valuing an AR-88 that UPS destroyed last week --

As you might imagine, the US Government is not exempt from losing stuff.
I was sitting in the desert (Egypt) once waiting for an engine to be
delivered. When it didn't show up, we asked about it and were told that
it was "lost". Lost? A couple thousand pound jet engine on a wheeled
engine stand?

It seems that the shipping docs became separated from the engine and it
was pushed into a corner of the warehouse (Sicily). Without paperwork,
to the supply system, it did not exist. Fortunately we had a crewmember
go to the warehouse and find it. We eventually got it delivered, hung
on the plane, and we got home after 28 days in the shadow of the
Pyramids!

Ham content: My copilot was able to work on his CW and study for his
general! He got it.

I've had a few interesting experiences with UPS.

I bought an anvil once and UPS lost it in transit! Completely
disappeared.

Radiowise, I bought a radio and it was delivered COD so I paid the
driver. Out of the blue I started getting notices from a collections
agency for the same money so I let it go for about 6 months. Then I
wrote the CEO of UPS asking him that since it was a COD package is UPS
saying that I stole it off the truck. No more collection notices.

And, over the years I've received a couple of rifles that looked a D8
drove over them and spun around.
