In 1929, Robert A. Fischer moved from Chicago to California after working with his brother at the H.G. Fischer Corporation, a maker of X-ray equipment. With a background in engineering and physical therapy, he formed the Fischer Corporation prior to World War II and created a line of electro-medical equipment which included shortwave diathermy, ultrasound, transcutaneous muscle stimulators, ultraviolet and massage therapy devices.
