Hi Wilson,
 
You are correct, that "receiver" they were using was a Precision  Series E 
signal generator. I have a pair of them I have been hauling around to  
hamfests but haven't sold them yet.  Maybe I should hawk them as a
 Gen -U - Wine movie prop replica from "AMELIA!"
