Webster Bandspanner query

Greetings all knowing ham types!  I have two Webster band spanners that have the same blue color. The sliding whip with the spring contact ring are the same overall length. The one antenna seems to have resistance to the ring the whole length of the antenna, the other about half way then it free falls to the bottom end. I haven't an easy way to mount them and compare them to check SWR etc. Were there two versions maybe with different coil winding lengths?  Thanks for any comments! Fred W7PRV
