Wow, thanks, folks.
Professor Coyle was the one I was thinking of but the comments raised
regarding that method (Tempes Boatanchors list) have given me cause to
pause and think a little further into the mysteries of winding old-type
coils. A few pointed me at other sites that have some additional
information of interest. Okay, gotta study some to bring myself back to
date. :-)
