The big advantage to DSB is that you can use a Costas Loop detector to 
regeneraate the carrier for  automatic synchronization - no BFO drift, 
no duck talk.  This was a big advantage with the drifty radios that were 
common before the 1950's.   SSB wasn't very satisfactory until Art 
Collins proved that a sufficiently stable receiver could be built.
