Thanks to all who replied, I have several good sources for HV wire,
including the old trick of using RG-8. Great bunch of guys (and gals) on

I have used high-performance automotive spark plug wire for HV power
supplies. Just make sure it is copper wire, not "resistance wire". I prefer
the 8mm silicone jacketed wire made by Mallory, which has red insulation, or
Accel, which is yellow. You may have to look a little to find an automotive
electrical place that will sell you bulk wire for the length you need.
Otherwise you'd need to buy a 100' roll.
