Do you have the selectivity specs for this vintage receiver? It is listed as a double/triple conversion superhet.
I agree that a pre-selector will not give you much benefit unless there are selectivity or image rejection issues.
These devices cannot improve the signal to noise ratio the input to receiver. Unless the unit incorporates a low noise amplification stage, there is likely little to be gained.

If you can hear additional background noise when you connect the antenna, then probably no unless you
have a problem with image rejection.

Would a preselector make enough of a difference
used with an Elmac PMR-6a to be bothered with?
Added selectivity and low-noise sensitivity
would be the intended goal - used in a fixed
rather than original-design mobile setting.
