Greetings,
I've been restoring a Harvey Wells TBS-50. Finally powered it up this
weekend with the intent of using it on 80 meter AM. I got no power out.
Zero....
After looking at other TBS-50 pictures on the web, I've determined that
someone has replaced the 80/40 meter tank coil with a coil with many more
turns. And no 40 meter tap. Strangely enough, I have great drive to the 807
grid on the right frequency.
Does anyone have a TBS-50 that's a parts donor? With an intact tank coil
for 80/40 meters?
Any leads on a replacement part appreciated....
Or, I can modify this coil to reduce the turn count, but it's a very close
spaced coil. I have a good grid dip meter, but in checking other bands with
it I find that none of the tank coils resonate in any ham band, which is
probably a flaw in my test setup or lack of understanding of how this tank
should work....I get a strong dip at ~2.1 MHz in the 80 meter band switch
position, which makes me believe someone started a conversion to 160
meters.
If you've got some experience in this, I'd appreciate a tip on the best way
to get it back in shape.
Thanks.
