Hello All,

My son is learning about radio transmission/receiving and is considering working on a HAM license. He picked up 3 of these at a garage sale this past weekend and has been trying to find an instruction/maintenance manual, with little success thus far.

He (we) have a some questions for the group:

  1. Anyone out there familiar with these and knows where to go for such information? I did find this link (http://www.radiomanual.info/schemi/Surplus_NATO/AN-PRT-4A_AN-PRR-9_serv_TM11-5820-549-35_1969.pdf), but am open to other sources

  2.
  3. Is there a reliable source of batteries for these or will we need to rig up some on our own?
  4. Fast forward to where they are brought back into service (or just pretend they work now): It would be fun to try them, but we want to make sure we won't run afoul of any laws and cause interference of some sort. Their transmitting power is <1 watt, so could we just give them a go or is a license/certificate required first?
  5. Must we have the associated AN/PRR-9 to receive or can we use any receiver that happens to receive in their respective frequencies?

Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated. Yes, these are naive questions as the fun is just beginning, but everyone starts from somewhere.

Thank you very much in advance.

Best Regards,

William
