Frank,
The DB-20 was the preselector that cosmetically matched the RME-69
receiver. These were also produced in finishes other than black
wrinkle. During WWII, thousands were made for the Navy to provide some
separation between the antenna and the oscillator of existing
receivers. My webpage has the later DB-22A on it. The biggest problem
I have run into with these is dirty controls (RF gain and bandswitch)
and mis-alignment by a GenevaDreaded Onetime
Owner Foisting Undocumented Service (a DOOFUS tightening the loose
screws). The 6SK7 RF amps are a straight-forward design. The DB-22A
uses the 6BA6 in place of the 6SK7 and a 6X4 in place of the 80 or 5Y3
rectifier. The schematic for the DB-20 is in one of the later Riders,
not yet available on the Nostalgia Air website. The DB-22A was sold
to me by a hamfest "re-seller" as a converter. Yes, I knew what I was
buying. After thorough cleaning and alignment, I was listening to
shortwave using just it and my cheap Radio Shack signal tracer
(essentially a little audio amp and a diode).
73 de Rich.
