[cisco-nas] compression over adsl

Today i tried to enable stac/mppc compression for 1 adsl user (PPPoE) and i noticed something really
strange...
While doing a ping to the peer address, i started to download a 30MB text file and the compression
seemed to be working fine ("sh compress").
Looking at the va interface i couldn't see more than 120kbps while this user should be able to do at
least 384 kbps. At the same time the ping time was increasing which means that the line was full at
that time. Also my ethernet card was showing values between 250 and 450 kbps at the same time.
After disabling the compression and downloading the same file, the va interface showed ~380 kbps
which was the expected rate. Of course the ping time was still increasing, as it should be when the
line is full.
Is there an explanation why the va interface was showing such a low value when the compression was
enabled?
If the low value of 120kbps is actually the compressed 384 kbps stream, shouldn't the rest ~260kbps
be used somehow?
