Hi Jakob,
A quick search on the CCO Tech Documentation under the 3550 Configuration Guide and Command Reference indexes showed a mention of both these features. There wasn't much detail about proxy-arp (see http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/c3550/12112cea/3550scg/swiprout.htm#1081564)
and private VLANs appear to be called 'protected VLANs' (http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/c3550/12112cea/3550scg/swtrafc.htm#1031912)
Haven't used either on the 3550, so can't guarantee what they actually do :-)
