[nsp] Source for 1000Base-TX GBICs

I have heard Cisco is only branding Finisar and Agilent...I can't imagine
Cisco having either perform custom runs to code "their" GBIC's...but nothing
surprises me. This is HEARSAY...a good source tho. Any additional info
would be appreciated.

I have asante Gbics and they work fine in my 6509 and 3500xls but don't
work in my new 3550's.
I was told of a story about a Large Cisco customer in the portland area
that was having fiber connections dieing left and right. They told
cisco if they didn't get it fixed they were going to rip out all the
cisco gear. Cisco sent a bunch of the gear back for testing and found
that they had used 3rd party Gbics that were frying inside. So Cisco is
moving to only using Cisco Gbic. They are writing code that if it is
not keyed cisco that it will not work. So as IOS is updated... Be
warned that the gbics from 3rd parties may stop working. I was also
told that cisco does indeed buy from other vendors and sell them as
Cisco's. So if anyone knows the list of the vendors that Cisco buys
from, I sure would like to buy from them at there price rather then
cisco's Price.
My 2 cents worth.

We bought a bunch of IBM GBIC's and none of them worked in Catalyst
3500's or 6500's. The Cisco GBIC's worked fine and the IBM's worked in
NIC cards, but not in the Cisco switches.
