I just installed my first NPE-G1, with 12.2(14)S1, and "until now" (three
hours) it's behaving pretty well...

Installation was somewhat tricky - it was an update, and I hadn't removed
the PCMCIA flash card from the C7200-IO board (assuming the NPE-G1 would
not see that flash anyway, as it has its own compact flash on board).  

The boot ROM *did* see the PCMCIA flash, and the IOS version on there 
(12.0S) of course didn't work...  took me a while to figure that out.
