The main differences are:
A6
- Up to 8191 simultaneously available virtual circuits (VCs) 
- Up to 2000 simultaneous segmentations and reassemblies (SARs) 
A3
- Up to 4096 total virtual circuits (open VCs)
- Up to 1024 concurrent segmentations and reassemblies (SARs)
I am sure there are other enhancements as well.  Check for hardware
support as I think right now it is only supported on 72/73/74.
