Agreed; however you can do Frame Relay switching on the 7200 as well as
FR-ATM and vice versa Internetworking at the packet level, so why can't
you do ATM switching?

Anyone from Cisco on the list?

Subject: [nsp] ATM switching on a 7200

Hi,

Correct me if i'm wrong but i don't think a router can switch a cell
based only on the vp value, due to the fact that it has to turn cells
into a packet as it receives them from an ATM interface, segment it again
into cells and transmit out to an ATM interface. The router needs an ip
address to bind the packets into a pvc,or some sort of bridging between
ATM interfaces which i don't think is working for a whole vp. A possible
solution could be to terminate (rather than trying to cell
switch) the pvp's on the router sw7200 interfaces and cef-switch on the
individual pvc's.

Regards

Kostas
