You are right. Cisco says the 3550 tops out around 16,000 routes.
I have a customer trying to find some mid point (price wise) between a 6500
and a 3550 that supports at least 4-6 GigE ports (L3) and a few full BGP
views. I don't know what the "street" price of a 450x is, but that is
probably his only option.
