Subject: [nsp] Gigastack trouble
Hi,
I have a stack of four Cisco switches 3524XL (IOS c3500XL-c3h2s-mz-120.5.1XW) connected through a GIGASTACK connection.
This week, and once every two days, I got the following log messages from one switche and it last dew seconds:
Jan 25 08:18:44: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet0/2, changed state to down Jan 25 08:18:45: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface GigabitEthernet0/2, changed state to down Jan 25 08:18:46: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet0/2, changed state to up Jan 25 08:18:47: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface GigabitEthernet0/2, changed state to up Jan 25 08:18:56: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet0/2, changed state to down Jan 25 08:18:57: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface GigabitEthernet0/2, changed state to down Jan 25 08:18:57: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface GigabitEthernet0/2, changed state to up Jan 25 08:18:58: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface GigabitEthernet0/2, changed state to up Jan 25 08:19:00: %RTD-1-LINK_FLAP: GigabitEthernet0/2 link down/up 5 times per min Jan 25 08:19:05: %RTD-1-LINK_FLAP: GigabitEthernet0/2 link down/up 5 times per min Jan 25 08:19:11: %GIGASTACK-1-NO_LOOP_DETECT: The link neighbor of link 2 of Gigastack GBIC in Gi0/2 did not respond to the loop detection request. If loop topology is deployed, make sure all switches in the stack are running the latest software.
On the three other switches, I see the same messages concernining the flapping LINK-3-UPDOWN and RTD-1-LINK_FLAP without the GIGASTACK-1-NO_LOOP_DETECT message.
If this is a hardware trouble, won't it simply break and not work at all?
The switches have been working fine during the last 10 months, and their config did not change: ! interface GigabitEthernet0/2 description TRUNK TO sw3,sw5 and sw6 (GIGASTACK) switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,21-23,1002-1005 switchport mode trunk !
How could I figure out if this is a hardware trouble?
Thank you.
Christophe
