If you are going to go to a non-cisco solution, yet you don't want to go
to a total freeware solution.

There are plenty of switches that have routing capabilities that will
have low price-points.

3550-EMI is cool, but a bit pricy.
Foundry fastiron edge looks decent as long as you don't need BGP.  Don't
know about price.
