Hmm, strange, this should work. Can I see the full config (pls send it unicast). I still find it strange that your static routes to the vrf interface disappear when you enable compression on the PE. 
Does it work if you put the interface into the global routing table for a test?

12.3(9a) or 12.3(10a) are safe bets..
