RIP to the 836, even if it's only announcing a default route, a high-metric static default out of the ISDN, and dialer-watch?

If anything breaks in the path between the edge and the 836, the default route goes away, dialer-watch brings up the ISDN. Route comes back, dialer-watch tears down the ISDN call.

It gets messier if your routing's more complex than that, but for a simple Internet access / default route scenario, it should be quite a clean setup.

Regards,
Tim.
