I have used non-Cisco GBICs on Cat 6500s, and they seem to work fine. The switch will not necessarily recognize them, but the links come up. This doesn't mean it will work with all non-Cisco GBICs, however. I have not tried them on anything other than a Cat 6500. Regards, David Wolsefer
