You can run FR-encaps and get it even worse - Serial5/0/0.1/1/3/1:0.101 ;)

Seriously, it's one to be aware of if you're rolling out 7600s, especially
if you've got a lot of home-grown systems.  Have a careful look at what
assumptions your systems are making about the length and the format of
interface names - rules like "maximum of two slashes" (from 7500
slot/bay/port worst-case), or "anything after a dot is a logical
subinterface" (FR, dot1q, etc) are going to bite you when you start
processing these.
