Mario,
Looking at these CCO pages
(WS-C2950-24)
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps628/products_data_sheet09186a00801cfb71.html
(WS-C2950G-24-EI)
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps628/products_data_sheet09186a00801cfb64.html
I see that both have 13.6-Gbps switching fabric, but then the hardware seems
to differ:
WS-C2950-24: 4.8-Gbps maximum forwarding bandwidth, 3.6-Mpps wire-speed
forwarding rate
WS-C2950G-24-EI: 8.8 Gbps maximum forwarding bandwidth, 6.6 Mpps wire-speed
forwarding rate
The problem is, I don't really know how these numbers translate to
real-world applications. Will the difference in maximum forwarding bandwidth
and forwarding rate really make a difference? And are those numbers that way
only because there are GBIC ports on the G-series switch? Maybe someone on
the list could give you some idea as to when this difference will begin
affecting performance...
Best,
Adam
