Thanks for the test.
I tried 256 Mb DIMMs in a NPE-300 today, and the result is "interesting":
- Slot 2: 256 Mb DIMM, Slot 3: empty
-> Router boots, has 256 Mb DRAM, everything seems "normal"
- Slot 2: 256 Mb DIMM, Slot 3: 128 or 256 Mb DIMM
-> Boot ROM never reaches the point of printing the initial memory
size ("C7200 platform with X Kbytes of main memory")
- Slot 2: <anything>, Slot 3: 256 Mb DIMM
-> Boot ROM complains that "Slot 2 DIMM must be bigger than Slot 3"
(as usual)
In short: while the fact that 256 Mb "with a single DIMM" works is
interesting, any combination "NPE-300 with more than 256 Mb" does NOT
work.
