To my experience, OPNet is powerful in simulating network which is composed by many commercial products. It includes a lot of model for Cisco, Juniper, 3Com etc.'s product. I also include modules which could simulate MPLS, QoS, Ad-hoc ... But it's really expensive and maybe a little hard to learn how to do up your own network. SPGuru maybe a better choice for ISP and ITGuru for developers.

To researchers, NS2 is the common tools. Open source, a lot of users ... etc.

Wandl is famous too, someone told me it's good in MPLS network simulation and it's cheaper than Opnet.

Also Cisco's netsys could do something alike, but I have no experience with it.

Hello,

My company is looking for a simulation tool that can be used for
Simulation our real network, do traffic analysis with, capacity planning,
network design, and finally validate new designed products with traffic flow
and studying network behavior.

Initial search leads to Opnet but I would like to hear from your
experience - of those who got the chance to use the software -, and also how
about other alternative software. Is Infovista doing the same ? Which one of
them is better and do you have other suggestions ?

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

Regards,
Yasser
