[c-nsp] Weirdness with 2950SX-48-SI

I just bought a Catalyst 2950SX-48-SI and I think it might be acting up.
I upgraded the software on it to an image that supports SSH and then I
configured it. It has been sitting under my desk running with no
problems for a couple of days. However, this morning I went to verify
that the config was correct before I install it into production later
today and I noticed that it was sitting at the "switch:" prompt, and
subsequent booting showed that it had no startup config any longer.
I've since rebuilt the config and all seems to be well, but what would
cause a switch to reboot to the "switch:" prompt and lose its startup
config? Very weird...
Thanks,
John
