I had a problem like this ages ago with a 2500 router. Hyperterminal on 
some laptops was the culprit. Use another terminal emulator (TeraTerm is my 
preference) and it all works...

IMHO Hyperterminal is for absolute emergency use only. I don't use it at 
all if I can help it.
