Yup, I'm aware of that one. But we've just got good old 'set ip next-hop' 
configured on 12.3 mainline and are experiencing weirdness.
So, with just that, I'm expecting that the next hop *must* be directly 
connected, right? Or is it a bit more iffy than that?

It can now be recursive to a non direcly connected ip address.
