Hi Tom

We have 2 7206vxr routers. one NPE-300 and a NPE-400.

Last year the NPE-400 crashed/rebooted with the followith error.
System returned to ROM by processor memory parity error at PC 0x608E3EB8, address 0x0

A few weeks ago the NPE-300 decided to do the same with this error.
System returned to ROM by processor memory parity error at PC 0x606B2058, address 0x0

This is the message we received back from our cisco suppliers.

This has been through Cisco's DEBUG and they suggested am Memory reseat or swap-out.

WARNING: The 'Processor Memory Parity' error may be caused due to soft or hard
parity error in DRAM. This is not a software induced issue.
There are two different kinds of parity errors:
 - Soft parity errors: these occur when an energy level within the chip changes.
A soft parity error is identified by a single error.
In case of a soft parity error, there is no need to swap the board or any of
the components. Most parity occurrences are soft parity errors and can
   usually be dismissed.
 - Hard parity errors: these occur when there is a chip or board failure that
causes data to be corrupted. A hard parity error can be identified by repeating
errors within the same address region.
TRY THIS: At the first occurrence of a parity error, it is not possible to determine
whether it is a soft or hard parity error. Most parity occurrences are soft parity
errors, and can usually be dismissed. If you have recently changed some hardware,
or have moved the box, try re-seating the affected part (DRAM, SRAM, NPE, RP, RSP,
or VIP). Frequent multiple parity occurrences signify faulty hardware, in which
case, the affected part (DRAM, RSP, VIP, or motherboard) should be replaced.
1. Please refer to TCC - Processor memory parity error, if you have multiple
   crashes.

Thanks

Wickus

Subject: [c-nsp] 7206VXR w/ Process Memory Parity Error

I have a 7206VXR (NPE-300) that has been working fine as a border router
for over two years. It reloaded itself last night, and the logs say that
it was due to a "processor memory parity error". Research on Cisco's
website (and through Google) suggest that if this happens only one time,
it's just a random occurrence. Output Analyzer says that it's a
"software defect", but has no suggestions on how to fix it.

Does anyone here have any experience with this type of error on the
7200-series? Should I write this incident off as a random glitch?

Thanks,

= TC
