The sup2+ (WS-X4013+) runs IOS. I don't think the original sup2 (that you've got) will run IOS. The non-PLUS version is now EOS, that's why it's probably recommending the sup2+ in it's place.

Subject: [c-nsp] 4006 sup2 can run IOS?

Hello,

We have a 4006 series switch with supervisor engine 2. It runs CatOS just
now. Can we upgrade to IOS? I read cisco.com and follow the IOS upgrade
planner, and I can select IOS image for this platform.

Here is the "sh ver" and "dir" output.
