Sub-interfaces are only supported for doing MPLS. See the Layer 3
configuration guide (http://tinyurl.com/5pgkh), which says: "You
can configure subinterfaces on Layer 3 interfaces to support
MPLS" and "Configure subinterfaces only to support MPLS."
