Hi Doleary / matthew,
Buffer sizing / MTU size depend on the application and link are in use. As
said by Matthew, u need to take care of smaller packets like VOIP packet
(70-120 byte), when you have large mtu on the same network, causing delay /
jitter for small mtu packet. a good link on mtu sizing :
http://www.aarnet.edu.au/engineering/networkdesign/mtu/size.html
traffic engineering is a good option but not very scalable using PBR and
variable cost. Need to MPLS, it will give better control, u can route the
traffic on source address, destination address and QoS.
 Regards
Vikas
