The only reason people use PPPoX is for 1. radius auth and 2. ip pooling
Well, if you aren't fixiated on managing every user through a radius server,
you could always use atm vc mapping, such as "A sample ATM interface
configuration" at http://www.aads.net/new_cust_desc_info.html
That way, you could just use an rfc1483 routed setup, each customer only takes
one IP so you still get efficient use of addresses, and you know that each
customer can only use that IP for spam complaints and the like. Pretty much
every DSL CPE out there supports rfc1483 routed (encap aal5snap, that's about
it on the Cisco side)
